News Second City's Barack Stars Begins DC Run July 14 Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company presents Chicago's The Second City in Barack Stars — a topical revue of sketch comedy, songs and improv, all on the subject of President Barack Obama — July 14-Aug. 2 in Washington, DC.

Barack Stars includes material from previous Second City political shows, as well as new material written especially for this production.

"I started talking with Second City about bringing a show to Woolly Mammoth shortly after we moved into our new home in 2005," stated artistic director Howard Shalwitz. "But with the election of Obama — and the arrival of numerous Chicagoans as part of the new administration — it became inescapable. To have the nation's premiere comedy troupe, on the occasion of their 50th anniversary, create a show especially for Woolly Mammoth, dealing with both Chicago's and Washington's favorite political personality — it's almost too good to be true. We're thrilled to welcome Second City to the nation's capital and to the Capital Fringe Festival — for this hilarious evening of biting, up-to-the-minute sketch comedy."

Woolly Mammoth is a Capital Fringe partner this year. Tickets are sold through Woolly Mammoth, not the Fringe.

According to Woolly Mammoth, "Chicago produced a president, a string of corrupt governors, and they're in the running for the 2016 Olympics; so who better to make fun of all of it than The Second City… "In Barack Stars, Chicago's favorite son is given his satiric due, with an economy on the ropes and maybe just a touch of swine flu for good measure. Perfecting the art of comedy revue with sketches, songs and a little improvisation, The Second City storms the Capital City to tackle partisanship, the politics of race, a terrifyingly tiny Rahm Emanuel, and a host of other headline-grabbing personalities."

Woolly Mammoth is located at 641 D Street, NW (at 7th & D).

Tickets are $40 and are currently on sale. To purchase, call (202) 393-3939 or visit www.woollymammoth.net.
