Dinner With Demons, penned and performed by Reynolds, will be served up Nov. 25-Jan. 18, 2004, at the midtown Manhattan locale. Opening night for the world premiere is set for Dec. 16.
In the 90-minute evening, the author will cook up anecdotes as well as an entire holiday feast — including "an unheard-of flavor of sorbet, an exotic braised cardoon, and a spicy, deep-fried turkey," a release said. During the course of Dinner, Reynolds will explore the role of food at the family table and the connection between food and seduction, while talking of his parents, his jet-setting uncle and his famous movie star cousin.
(Note: The stage crew will eat well as the delectable dinner is not allowed to be served to audience members due to health code restrictions.)
Director Peter Askin, who recently helmed Trumbo Off-Broadway and John Leguizamo's Sexaholix...a love story on Broadway, directs the work. The director's other credits also include Mambo Mouth andSpic-O Rama for the solo star — as well as Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Reynolds' other plays include Yanks 3 Detroit 0 Top of the 7th, Rubbers, Geniuses and Stonewall Jackson's House. He also currently writes a bi-weekly food column for The New York Times Magazine. The design team for Dinner with Demons features Heidi Ettinger (scenic), Kevin Adams (lighting) and John Gromada (sound). The production will also feature cookware, bakeware and kitchen accessories from All-Clad Metalcrafters.
