Director Gordon Greenberg told Playbill.com that the new musical, which features a book by Ben Winters and Erik Jackson and the music of hit songwriter Sedaka, will play the Florida theatre in January. According to the theatre's official website, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do will run Jan. 11-Feb. 12, 2006.
The musical comedy, according to the Actors' Playhouse site, "follows two gals from Brooklyn who spend an unforgettable Labor Day weekend in 1960 at a wacky Catskills resort." The musical will feature such Sedaka hits as “Solitaire,” “Calendar Girl,” “Laughter In the Rain,” “Love Will Keep Us Together” and the title tune.
It's a busy time for director Greenberg, who recently helmed the acclaimed production of The Baker's Wife at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. In addition to Breaking Up, Greenberg will also direct the upcoming Off-Broadway musical Slut, which begins performances Sept. 13 at the American Theatre of Actors.
The Actors' Playhouse season will also include Grease! (Oct. 1-Nov. 13), Johnny Guitar (Nov. 30-Dec. 18), The Full Monty (March 8, 2006-April 9), Five Course Love (May 3-June 4) and The Mystery of Irma Vep (July 12-Sept. 3).
The Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre is located in Coral Gables, FL, at 280 Miracle Mile. For tickets call (305) 444-9293. Visit www.actorsplayhouse.org for more information.
