The 91st Academy Awards ceremony was held on February 25, with Olivia Colman, Rami Malek, Lady Gaga, and Spike Lee all taking home awards for the first time, while Green Book was awarded the Oscar for Best Picture. For this year's ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences enlisted the help of set designer David Korins.

Korins is a prolific, Tony-winning set designer whose Broadway credits include such megahits as Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, as well as Bring It On, Misery, Bandstand, and the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Beetlejuice. Korins has also designed for musical artists such as Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Bruno Mars, Andrea Bocelli, and Sia.
