News "Seinfeld" Star Jason Alexander Will Revisit Personal History By Directing Broadway Bound Award-winning actor Jason Alexander, who starred in the original 1986 production of Broadway Bound, will direct a production of that Neil Simon play for the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble.

The production begins performances Aug. 2 and continues through Sept. 21.

The cast includes Ian Alda (Lieutenant of Inishmore, Broadway Bound) and Noah James (A Midsummer Night's Dream) as brothers Eugene and Stanley Jerome, who are determined to break into show business as professional comedy writers. Gina Hecht (The Prisoner of Second Avenue, "Glee") and Michael Mantell (AfterMath, Orange Flower Water) play their parents Kate and Jack Jerome. The cast also includes Allan Miller (The Sunshine Boys, Broadway Bound) and Betsy Zajko (The New Electric Ballroom, A Bright New Boise) as Grandpa Ben and Aunt Blanche.

"Broadway Bound sparkles with the potent combination of Simon’s celebrated comic genius and his deep understanding of family dynamics," press notes state. "As their parents' relationship unravels, two brothers — aspiring comedy writers — convene in the upstairs bedroom of their Brighton Beach home to write and rehearse material. When the brothers use their real-life family situation as inspiration for a radio comedy skit, they quickly learn that complications ensue when life informs art."

"Broadway Bound is near and dear to my heart as it was one of my happiest times on Broadway," Alexander said in a statement. "Seeing my friends Gina [Hecht] and Allan [Miller] perform it at La Mirada last year brought back many memories of my journey with the creation of the play, which I shared with them. After that discussion, they were inspired to re-explore it with me at the helm, and the Odyssey has miraculously and generously stepped up to produce that effort."

Alexander starred as George Costanza on the hit TV show "Seinfeld" for eight seasons. He won the Tony Award for his performance in Jerome Robbins' Broadway, and his stage credits also include Merrily We Roll Along, The Rink and Accomplice. The final play in an acclaimed semi-autobiographical trilogy that includes Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues, Broadway Bound opened on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre in December 1986, directed by Gene Saks and starring, along with Alexander, Linda Lavin, Jonathan Silverman, Phyllis Newman and John Randolph.
