When their mother Vi dies, Mary, Teresa and Catherine, the three sisters of The Memory of Water, gather together on the northeastern coast of England to bury her. Once reunited, they discover they have vastly different memories of their childhoods, their upbringing and especially of their mother.

Water had its American premiere at Steppenwolf Theatre's mainstage and ran in the 1998-99 season at Off-Broadway's Manhattan Theatre Company with J. Smith-Cameron. The comic drama was Stephenson's first stage play, though she's penned several award-winning radio plays. The piece enjoyed an extended run at London's Hampstead Theatre in 1998.

Starring in this Water are Beverly Bullock (Vi), Lori Wilner (Mary), Judith Lightfoot Clarke (Teresa), Danielle Quisenberry (Catherine), Jon Krupp (Mike) and Peter Ruvolo (Frank).

Julie Duro designed the lighting with director Lelbach designing the sets. Stephanie Marrinan is the stage manager. Tickets ($15-$11) are available by calling the box office at (914) 647 5511. The Shadowland Theatre is located at 157 Canal Street.
