The musical, which captures the moment the Bible's 100-year-old Abraham tells his 90-year-old wife Sarah she's going to have a baby, features work by Harnick and his collaborators, composer Donald Oliver (The Case of the Dead Flamingo Dancer) and Marc Acito (Allegiance, A Room with a View).
For The Love Of God is conceived as part of the "revuesical" In the Name of Love, with music by Oliver and lyrics by a group of lyricists that include David Zippel, Peter Mills, David Spencer and Amanda Yesnowitz.
"I'll confess that much of what I wrote is based on my marriage, which will achieve 'golden' status next year," Harnick said in a statement.
Harnick is a Tony Award winner for the lyrics of Fiddler on the Roof. His writing credits also include The Apple Tree, The Rothschilds, Fiorello!, Tenderloin and She Loves Me.
The Festival is the largest "short-musical" festival in the country, featuring five series of 15-minute world-premiere musicals by emerging and renowned artists.
The West Village Musical Theater Festival performs at the Players Theater June 19-29. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
