Carole Shelley, who played the role of Parthy in Broadway's Show Boat revival, agreed to step into that role in the Los Angeles production on short notice when Cloris Leachman broke her foot during the curtain call at the March 1 matinee. The national touring company is scheduled to play at the Ahmanson Theatre through April 6, and a production spokesperson told Reuters that Leachman, star of Young Frankenstein and other films and TV shows, is expected to be back in the show by then.

Shelley has extensive stage credits, including the original Broadway productions of The Odd Couple and The Elephan Man.
