News Sherie Rene Scott to Explore Everyday Rapture Off-Broadway Sherie Rene Scott — currently on Broadway in Disney's The Little Mermaid — will star Off-Broadway in the semi-autobiographical Everyday Rapture this spring at Second Stage.

Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) will direct the new work penned by Scott and Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie) with musical supervision by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal).

Everyday Rapture is the final addition to the Off-Broadway troupe's current season. Previews will begin April 7, 2009, toward a late April official opening.

Featuring a cast of five led by Scott, the new stage work is billed as "the story of a young woman's psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future," according to an announcement. "Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York (with a disturbing detour through YouTube)."

Though not defined as a musical or play with music, Everyday Rapture will features songs made famous by David Byrne, George Harrison, U2, The Dap Kings and Judy Garland. Further casting and creative team members are yet to be announced.

Scott — currently playing Ursula in The Little Mermaid — is known for her work in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Aida and The Last Five Years. She has also appeared on stage in Landscape of the Body, Tommy, Rent, Debbie Does Dallas, Faust and Over and Over. With husband Kurt Deutsch, Scott also co-founded Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records (sh-k-boom.com). A previous version of Everyday Rapture, entitled You May Now Worship Me, was presented March 31 to benefit the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative of The Actors Fund.

Second Stage's 30th anniversary season currently launches with Howard Korder's Boys' Life (through Nov. 9) and continues with Gina Gionfriddo's Becky Shaw (Dec. 16-Feb. 1, 2009). Douglas Carter Beane's Mr. & Mrs. Fitch (to follow Everyday Rapture) will close the season in summer 2009.
