Although plans are in the very early stages, producer-TV personality Simon Cowell hopes to develop a stage musical version of his competition series "The X Factor," according to Deadline.com.

British comedian Harry Hill has been approached to write the book, while music producer Steve Brown will come up with musical ideas.

No timetable has been announced for the stage production.

"The X Factor" will make its American debut Sept. 21 at 8 PM ET on Fox. The new series, according to press notes, is described as such: "'THE X FACTOR' is the new competition series that gives viewers the opportunity to help choose the next global superstar or breakout music group. Judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger traveled the nation searching for undiscovered talent 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – who are worthy of the largest prize in television history: a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music."
