The production reunites him with director Sam Mendes, with whom he last worked on The Winter's Tale and The Cherry Orchard as part of Mendes' Bridge Project that played at London's Old Vic and New York's BAM. They previously worked together on RSC productions of Troilus and Cressidea, Richard III and The Tempest, as well as Othello at the National Theatre and Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night at the Donmar Warehouse.
Beale has also appeared at the National in Humble Boy, Jumpers (subsequently West End and Broadway), The Alechmist, Volpone, Candide, Money, Summerfolk, The LIfe of Galileo, Much Ado About Nothing, Major Barbara, London Assurance, Timon of Athens and Collaborators. West End appearances have included Deathtrap, Privates on Parade and most recently The Hothouse.
The cast also includes Stephen Boxer (as Gloucester), Cassie Bradley, Tom Brooke (Edgar), Richard Clothier, Jonathan Dryden Taylor, Kate Fleetwood (Goneril), Simon Manyonda, Anna Maxwell Martin (Regan), Daniel Millar, Michael Nardone, Gary Powell, Adrian Scarborough (Fool), Hannah Stokely, Stanley Townsend (Kent), Sam Troughton (Edmund), Olivia Vinall (Cordelia) and Ross Waiton.
The production will be designed by Anthony Ward, with lighting by Paul Pyant, video design by Jon Driscoll, fight direction by Terry King and sound design by Paul Arditti.
