Throughout the 11-day return engagement, audiences are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from the film while singing the movie's award-winning songs, whose lyrics are projected on the screen.
The opening night show also features a costume contest and a "Behind the scenes" of the making of "Mary Poppins," which features rarely-seen unit photography from the Disney Archives, as well as a special "Walking on Cherry Tree Lane" photo opportunity.
"We couldn't think of a better way to start the New Year than with a return engagement of the Sing-along 'Mary Poppins,'" Lylle Breier, senior vice president of Worldwide Special Events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, said in a statement. "El Capitan guests always have a real blast singing along with Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, and David Tomlinson. Here's a rare opportunity to see this great film digitally projected on the big screen, and to add your own voice to one of the greatest soundtracks of all-time."
Starring Julie Andrews as the titular nanny, "Mary Poppins," was released in 1964, directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney. Loosely based on P. L. Travers' book series, "Mary Poppins" was honored with five Academy Awards. The film "Saving Mr. Banks," which stars Academy Award winners Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, depicted the backstory of adapting the books into the film.
Mary Poppins was also adapted for the Broadway stage in 2006. Tickets and more information are available by calling 1-800-DISNEY6 or visiting elcapitantickets.com.
