Actors Theatre of Louisville isn't the only company sponsoring a 10-Minute Play Contest. Taking its cue from that Kentucky theatre, for the third year ACTION Theatre of Singapore is offering its own contest, with the winner getting a production, plus airfare and hotel accommodations in Singapore.

Plays must be no longer than 10 pages and submitted by March 31. Scripts must be in English but can come from any country and be on any topic.

Judging the plays will be (who else?) ATL's Jon Jory, as well as Ekachai Uekrongtham, ACTION's artistic director; T. Sasitharan, artistic director of The Substation; and playwrights Desmond Sim and Eleanor Wong. The contest is co-sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Singapore.

There's an official entry form, which can be downloaded from ACTION's website, http://www.happening.com.sg/action. Scripts may be sent via e-mail ([email protected]) or to Hewlett-Packard/ACTION Theatre, 10-Minute Play Contest, c/o ACTION Theatre, 182 Cecil Street, #04-04 Telok Ayer Performing Arts, Centre, Singapore 069547.

Previous winning scripts, including Bryan Tan Kuan Ho's Lizard In The Loo and Desmond Sims' Drunken Prawns, are available on the website. The company's website front page boasts this Singapore Television quote about ACTION: "ACTION Theatre's raison d'etre is to present everything and anything new and thought-provoking. From plays about identity, love, city life and loneliness, and even to topics like Karaoke!"
