Classic Arts News Singapore Symphony Makes American Debut The Singapore Symphony kicks off its first-ever tour of the United States with a performance at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, tonight.
The five-concert tour, conducted by music director Lan Shui, features solo performances by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Gil Shaham. It includes stops at Lincoln Center and at venues in Schenectady, New York; Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and West Point, New York. The SSO then gives six concerts in France and Spain.

Tonight's concert includes Mendelssohn's Ruy Blas Overture, Strauss's Don Juan and Der Rosenkavalier Suite, and Chen Yi's Ballad, Dance and Fantasy for Cello and Orchestra, with Ma as soloist.

The program tomorrow night at Lincoln Center adds Gang Chen and Zhanhao He's Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, with Shaham as soloist.
