The Center serves as a host for the National Theatre Live series, which is broadcast via satellite from London. The center will screen Nicholas Hytner's modern-day Othello, starring Adrian Lester in the title role and Rory Kinnear as Iago, Sept. 26. Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, will be screened Oct. 5, and the Donmar Warehouse production of Shakespeare's Coriolanus will be screened Feb. 5, 2014.
Live performances include the Polish American Folk Dance Company, which will perform Nov. 23, and the Montreal-based Cirque Éloize, which will perform Dec. 18, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014.
Visions + Voices: China, the center's second annual global performance series, focusing on Chinese artists, will run Feb. 20-May 12, 2014. The festival will include works by the Tao Dance Theater (Feb. 20 – 22); adaptations of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler (Feb. 25) and The Lady From the Sea (Feb. 26) by the all-female Hangzhou Yue Opera Company; the National Theater of China making its United States debut in a production of Shakespeare's Richard III (March 26–30); and the N.Y.U. Symphony Orchestra in a concert performance of The Map (May 12) by the composer Tan Dun.
The season will also offer live music performances, including 12 groups of musicians who will perform the 316 compositions in Mr. Zorn's "Book of Angels," a mix of jazz, rock, classical, world music and other genres Sept. 15; the return of the Joshua Light Show (Sept. 20-22); a multimedia musical performance that will feature the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and other guest musicians; and a concert by the Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall (Sept. 24).
