The program also includes Balanchine's Ballo della regina and Agon. Ballo della regina, with ballet music taken from Verdi's Don Carlo, was originally created for dancer Merrill Ashley, who is staging PB's version. Agon is the last of Balanchine's collaborations with the composer Igor Stravinsky.
The company's season runs through mid-June, and includes Jerome Robbins' The Concert, John Cranko's Romeo and Juliet, Frederick Ashton's La fille mal gard_e, and a program that includes both Twyla Tharp's Nine Sinatra Songs and Peter Martins' The Waltz Project.
The Pennsylvania Ballet and its school were established in 1963 by Barbara Weisberger, one of Balanchine's prot_g_s.
