News Sleeper: Danieley and O'Hara Star in World Premiere Fairy Tale Beauty at La Jolla, Sept. 16-Oct. 19 Jason Danieley (The Full Monty, Candide) and Kelli O'Hara (The Light in the Piazza, Sweet Smell of Success) star in the La Jolla Playhouse staging of Tina Landau's new take on the tale of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty.

The world premiere of the new work, written and directed by Landau, begins at the southern California stage Sept. 16 for a run through Oct. 19. The official opening is set for Sept. 21.

In Beauty, a beautiful girl comes of age as a young city man begins his journey to search for the beauty that has been lost to the world. The play uses the traditional story by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm while exploring the modern world's meaning of beauty.

Landau has also penned the play Space and the book to the Adam Guettel musical Floyd Collins Her directorial credits include the 2001 Broadway revival of Bells Are Ringing and numerous productions at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where she is an ensemble member, including William Saroyan's The Time Of Your Life, the world premiere of The Ballad of Little Jo and workshops of a new Disney musical under the working title When You Wish.

Danieley played the role of Malcolm in Broadway's The Full Monty and the title role in Candide. He also appeared Off-Broadway in Floyd Collins, Dream True and Trojan Women, A Love Story. O'Hara originated the role of Franca in Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza. She has also recently performed the title role in Richard Nelson and Ricky Ian Gordon's My Life With Albertine as well as Broadway turns in Sweet Smell of Success, Follies and Jekyll & Hyde.

The cast also includes Lisa Harrow (Wit) and University of California M.F.A. students David Ari, Corey Brill, Simone Vicari Moore, Adam Smith and Amy Stewart. San Diego native Richard Tibbitts rounds out the cast as the Musician. Beauty's creative team features Riccardo Hernandez (scenic), Melina Root (costumes), Scott Zielinski (lighting), Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (composers and sound). The production dramaturg is Heidi Coleman.
