Directed by Henry Wishcamper, the production will play through Oct. 25. The cast will be led by Chicago native Joey Slotnick (Off-Broadway's Offices, Lookingglass' Our Town) as Captain Jeffrey T. Spaulding, the "heightened vaudevillian persona created by Groucho Marx for the stage and screen original," according to the Goodman.
The company will also feature Jonathan Brody as Emmanuel Ravelli, Chico Marx's role; Molly Brennan as The Professor, Harpo Marx's role; and Ed Kross as Horatio Jamison, Zeppo Marx's role with Ora Jones as Mrs. Rittenhouse, Jessie Mueller as Grace Carpenter, Tony Yazbeck as Wally Winston, Mara Davi as Arabella Rittenhouse and Stanley Wayne Mathis as Hives.
Animal Crackers was written by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, with music and lyrics by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. In the musical, press notes state, "chaos ensues at the estate of Mrs. Rittenhouse when a celebrated piece of art is stolen during a party honoring the African explorer Captain Spaulding. A series of madcap Marx Brothers antics follows as the guests set out to find the burglar."
