Bess Wohl’s play Small Mouth Sounds, which played two acclaimed Off-Broadway engagements, will embark on a national tour beginning this fall. The multi-city tour will kick off at New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre and will play engagements in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami.

“I am thrilled to be bringing this gorgeous and entertaining theatrical gem to audiences across the United States. It’s so rare these days to have an acclaimed off-Broadway show launch a multi-city tour, which makes this even more exciting,” commented producer Eva Price in a press statement.

Set on a silent retreat, the play follows six city runaways attempting to find some balance in the quiet of the woods. Casting for the touring production will be announced shortly.

Directed by Rachel Chavkin Small Mouth Sounds debuted in New York at Ars Nova in 2015 before returning Off-Broadway in 2016 for another engagement at the Signature Theatre.

The show was originally performed in traverse but will be redesigned for a proscenium setting. The original design team returns for the national tour: Obie-winning scenic designer Laura Jellinek, costume designer Tilly Grimes, lighting designer Mike Inwood, sound designer Stowe Nelson, projection designer Andrew Schneider, and prop designer Noah Mease.
