The New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's Smart People officially opens Feb. 10 at Second Stage Theatre, following previews that began Jan. 27. Directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon, the cast features Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek," "The Affair") and Mahershala Ali ("House of Cards"). 

Performances of the Off-Broadway production are at Second Stage’s Tony Kiser Theatre. Also included in the cast are Anne Son ("My Generation") and Tessa Thomson ("Selma").

"The quest for love, achievement and identity is universal, but what role does race play in the story of our lives?" ask press notes. "On the eve of Obama’s first election, four Harvard intellectuals find themselves entangled in a complex web of social and sexual politics in this provocative and funny new play by Lydia R. Diamond."
