Broadway star Liz Callaway has scheduled a series of concert dates in Florida, titled And the Tony Goes To: An Evening with Liz Callaway, including February 8 at the Spanish River Worship Center in Boca Raton.
Backed by the South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO), Callaway is scheduled to salute the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer-conductor Leonard Bernstein with a segment of songs from West Side Story and On The Town.
Callaway told Playbill, “I‘ll singing songs from Broadway and beyond, meaning songs from Broadway musicals, like Cats, The King and I and Funny Girl, as well as songs from the movies (Anastasia of course), and songs from the 1960s like ‘Downtown’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me.’ We’ll also be celebrating the Leonard Bernstein centennial so I’ll be singing ‘Somewhere’ for the very first time!”
Callaway, who made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along, earned her Tony nomination for Baby, in which she debuted one of her signature numbers, “The Story Goes On.“ Other appearances include taking over the role of Grizabella during the first Broadway run of Cats, and originating the role of Ellen in Broadway’s Miss Saigon. Since The Look of Love in 2003, she has focused on her busy concert and recording career.
The Spanish River Worship Center is located at 2400 Yamato Road, in Boca Raton. Tickets for the 7:30 PM performance of An Evening With Liz Callaway cost $35–$85.
Her Florida mini tour with the SFSO will take her to the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale February 6, the Arsht Center in Miami on February 7, The Spanish River Worship Center in Boca Raton on February 8, and the Tennessee Williams Theatre in Key West on February 10.
