The play, which first ran in Austin in 2004, takes place in a world where circuses are banned. Nonetheless a renegade troupe decides to play out the story of a girl who longs to be a clown. The show will mark the New York debut of the company. In the cast (large by Off-Broadway standards) are Robert Deike, Elizabeth Doss, Lee Eddy, Matt Hislope, Josh Meyer, Robert Pierson, Mark Stewart and Rommel Sulit.
Physical Plant is led in Austin by artistic director Moore. Its stated mission is to "reach diverse and under-served audiences for whom high ticket prices function as barriers to access" and to create "new and original work whose precision, elegance, and artistry coax audiences into unforgettable worlds of mystery and provocation."
Recent Soho Rep productions include Everything Will Be Different by Mark Schultz; The Flying Machine's Frankenstein; and Melissa James Gibson's Suitcase.
