Solo Play Isn't It Sarcastic Gets World Premiere in Philly April 29-June 4

News   Solo Play Isn't It Sarcastic Gets World Premiere in Philly April 29-June 4
Philadelphia Cabaret Theatre (PCT) presents Isn't It Sarcastic, a new comedy about sex, celebrities, and the single life written and performed by Doug Anderson, April 29-June 4.

"Real life run-ins with Broadway legends, E.R. nightmares, gay Christian boyfriends and exotic dancers" are promised in the "90-minute party that promises to be a wild ride."

The solo play, with a tone somewhere between Noel Coward and Lucille Ball, is "a cautionary tale of a man who has always prided himself on being the life of the party — only to wake up and realize that perhaps the party has gone on too long."

The conceit of the show has Anderson's character setting up for a party. Anderson said the piece was originally designed (in his mind) as a show with music, but his director encouraged him to make it a play. Tamanya Garza directs.

"A lot of people are coming to this asking, 'What songs are you going sing?'" cabaret veteran Anderson told "It's a big departure." Anderson's credits include Off-Broadway's Isn't It Romantic, Wilma Theatre's Passion Prince Music Theatre's Anyone Can Whistle , plus concerts and cabaret shows in New York and Philly.

The scattered performance dates for Isn't It Sarcastic are Friday & Saturday April 29-30, Sunday May 15, Friday & Saturday June 3-4. All shows are at 8 PM in The Red Room, a 100-seat space, at Society Hill Playhouse, 507 S. 8th Street, Philadelphia, PA.

Tickets are $20, which includes a drink. For reservations, call (215) 923-0210. For more information, visit

In its first season, Philadelphia Cabaret Theatre produced Sinatra Sings! and The Big Coxville Competition, a cabaret singers' series, as well as a benefit for John Kerry.
