The solo play — created and performed by actress Sun — will now run through June 18 at the Beckett Theatre on Theatre Row. Hal Brooks directs. No Child, according to press notes, "is an unflinching look into the New York City Public Education system. . . . [Sun transforms herself] into the teachers, students, parents, administrators, janitors, and security guards who inhabit our public schools every day and are shaping the future of America."
Nilaja Sun’s New York credits include Einstein’s Gift, Time and the Conways, The Cook and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl!. Her solo credits include Blues for a Gray Sun, La Nubia Latina, Black and Blue, Insufficient Fare, Due to the Tragic Events of... and Mixtures. Sun also worked in New York City’s Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, where Epic Theatre Center maintains an arts-ed residency.
