Stephen Sondheim, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Carol Hall, Sheldon Harnick, and Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire will perform songs either cut from or added to famous musicals at the last moment, as part of "Show & Tell," the annual gala benefitting Young Playwrights Inc. This year's event will be presented May 9 at the midtown nightclub Laura Belle.
The show will be hosted by playwrights Wendy Wasserstein and Alfred Uhry, who is president of Young Playwrights Inc. La Chanze and Liz Callaway, among others, will assist the composers in delivering the songs. Young Playwrights is 20 years old this year. Founded by Sondheim, the program introduces young scribes to the professional theatre. Past "young playwrights" include Kenneth Lonergan, Rebecca Gilman, Keith Glover and Jonathan Marc Sherman. 2001's junior dramatists will be introduced at the Wednesday event.
Tickets range from $200 to $500. Laura Belle is at 120 West 43rd Street. For tickets and further information, call Rebecca Sheir at (212) 307 1140.
