Songwriter Brown and Divita to Star in Rainbow Around the Sun at NYMF

News   Songwriter Brown and Divita to Star in Rainbow Around the Sun at NYMF Singer-songwriter Matthew Alvin Brown will star in the stage adaptation of his film Rainbow Around the Sun as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Based on the concept album and 2008 film of the same title, Brown penned music and lyrics for the production with a new book and additional lyrics by Tom Stuart. The stage adaptation, which begins performances Oct. 5, also includes new songs not featured in the original film.

Memphis and Vanities producer Nick Demos directs the production that runs through Oct. 17 at the 45th Street Theatre.

Rainbow Around the Sun, according to NYMF, "is a circus-like dissection of broken hearts, life through a liquor bottle, and rebirth through loss that follows flamboyant local rock hero Zachary Blasto as he struggles with his personal demons as he relives the highs and lows of his career during a radio interview."

Brown will portray Blasto in a cast that also features original "Rainbow" film cast member Jamie Buxton (A Chorus Line), as well as Janine DiVita (Grease) and Jefferson Slinkard (Mamma Mia).

Keith Levenson serves as musical supervisor with Nathan Siver as musical director. The design team also includes Meghan Buchanan (set design and props), Driscoll Otto (lighting design), Kurt Eric Fischer (sound design), Amelia Pedigo-Otto (costume design), Kat Ventura (hair and make design) and Eric Louie (dramaturge).
