News Songwriters Marilyn and Alan Bergman Among 2013 Special Merit Award Honorees at Grammy Week Event The Recording Academy will host the 2013 Special Merit Awards Ceremony Feb. 9 in L.A. Songwriters Marilyn Bergman and Alan Bergman, whose Broadway credits include Ballroom and Something More!, are among the honorees.

The annual Grammy week event, which will begin at 3 PM at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, honors recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Trustees Award and the Technical Grammy Award. The Grammy Camp – Jazz Session members are scheduled to perform.


The Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring lifelong artistic contributions to the recording medium, will be presented to Glenn Gould, Charlie Haden, Lightnin' Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, Ravi Shankar and the Temptations.

The Trustees Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the industry in areas other than performance, will be presented to the Bergmans, Leonard and Phil Chess, and Alan Livingston.

The Technical Grammy Award, honoring an individual and/or corporation's outstanding contributions of technical significance to the recording field, will be presented to Ikutaro Kakehashi and Dave Smith, and Royer Labs.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards will be held live at Staples Center in Los Angeles Feb. 10 and broadcast at 8 PM ET on CBS.
