News   Soul Sister, Musical Inspired by Ike and Tina Turner, to Transfer to West End's Savoy Theatre
Soul Sister, a new musical inspired by the music, life and times of Tina Turner and her former husband Ike, is to transfer to the West End's Savoy Theatre, beginning performances Aug. 20 prior to an official opening Aug. 23, for a run through Sept. 29. It originally tried out at Hackney Empire for a short run earlier this year that ran from April 14-May 5.

Devised by John Miller and Pete Brooks, and directed by Pete Brooks and Bob Eaton, it features Emi Wokoma as Tina Turner, with Chris Tummings as Ike, both reprising the roles they originally played at Hackney.

According to press materials, the musical "follows the highs and lows, the passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina Turner as their careers blossomed and their marriage crumbled. It features all the classics that Turner is known for, including 'Simply the Best,' 'What’s Love Got to Do with It,' 'Proud Mary,' 'Private Dancer' and 'River Deep Mountain High.'"

Wokoma's previous stage credits include appearing in Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre; as one of the Ronettes in Little Shop of Horrors at Birmingham Repertory Theatre; in The Bacchae directed by John Tiffany for the National Theatre of Scotland; and Trevor Nunn's production of Porgy and Bess at the Savoy.

Tummings has previously appeared in The Harder they Come and The Big Life, both at Stratford East Theatre Royal and in Fabulation at the Tricycle.

Soul Sister is designed by Laura Hopkins, with musical staging by Jason Pennycooke. The musical supervisor and arranger is Keith Strachan. It is being brought to the West End by Bill Kenwright and John Miller. To book tickets, contact the box office on 0844 871 7687, or visit
