COSTA MESA, CA -- The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation's Theatre Visions Fund has awarded South Coast Rep's May 1999 world premiere of John Glore's On the Jump a $50,000 grant.

The grant, the first from the five-year-old program to be given outside the New York/New Jersey area, will go to the production, its author, and future commissions.

On the Jump, directed by SCR Associate Mark Rucker, will open on the Mainstage May 28, 1999 and run through June 27, 1999. Previews begin May 21, 1999. The premiere will be part of SCR's Annual Pacific Playwrights Festival, which will take place June 17-20.

Glore has been Literary Manager of the SCR since 1985. His first success at the theatre was Wind of a Thousand Tales, a play for young audiences. His first full-length play for adults was The Company of Heaven, which also premiered at SCR and was later published by Dramatists Play Service.

"We feel that Glore has realized the promise of his early work and created a wonderfully uplifting theatre experience," said David Emmes, SCR's Producing Artistic Director. "We thank the Laurie Foundation for this assistance." -- By Willard Manus
