News "Spark of Creation": Children of Eden Begins Queens Run May 6 Stephen Schwartz's biblical musical Children of Eden, which sets the tale of creation and the great flood to a pop-infused score, begins performances May 6 at the Astoria Performing Arts Center.

APAC artistic director Tom Wojtunik stages the production that will run through May 22 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Astoria. Christine O'Grady choreographs with musical direction by Lilli Wosk.

The cast features James Zannelli as Father, Joseph Spieldenner as Adam/Noah, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Eve/Mama Noah, Alan Shaw as Cain/Japheth, Stephen Gelpi as Abel/Ham/Snake, Jonathan Gregg as Seth/Shem/Snake, Charissa Bertels as Aphra/Snake, Kelly Scanlon as Aysha/Snake, Stacie Bono as Yonah/Snake and Zekari Jackson as Young Abel.

Children of Eden has scenic design by Michael P. Kramer, costume/puppet design by Hunter Kaczorowski, lighting design by Dan Jobbins and sound design by Kate Foretek.

Featuring a score by Academy Award winner and Tony nominee Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell) and a book by John Caird, Children of Eden premiered in London in 1991 and later arrived in the U.S. at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 1997.

The musical explores the parent-child relationship through the story of Adam and Eve in the first act, while the second act concludes with the tale of Noah. Songs include "In the Beginning," "The Spark of Creation," "The Hardest Part of Love," "Lost in the Wilderness," "Stranger to the Rain," "In Whatever Time We Have" and the title song.
