News SpeakEasy Stage Gives Musical Triumph its Boston Premiere, Feb. 4-20 The SpeakEasy Stage Company will present the Boston premiere of the Jeffrey Stock-Susan Birkenhead-James Magruder musical, Triumph of Love Feb. 4-20 at the Boston Center for the Arts BCA Theatre.

The SpeakEasy Stage Company will present the Boston premiere of the Jeffrey Stock-Susan Birkenhead-James Magruder musical, Triumph of Love Feb. 4-20 at the Boston Center for the Arts BCA Theatre.

Based on the comedy by Marivaux, Triumph of Love follows the adventures of Princess Leonide as she seeks her true love, the young student Agis. He, however, is kept from the outside world -- and women - by his philosopher aunt Hesione and uncle Hermocrates. Leonide must disguise herself as man to gain admittance into his world, the results of which find not only Agis in love with her, but Hesione and Hermocrates as well.

Triumph of Love opened on Broadway Oct. 23, 1997 with Susan Egan as Leonide, Christopher Sieber as Agis, Betty Buckley as Hesione and F. Murray Abraham as Hermocrates. Stock wrote the music, Birkenhead the lyrics and Magruder the book in the musical comedy which includes the songs "Anything," "Emotions," "Serenity," "Issue in Question," "The Tree" and "Henchman Are Forgotten." Michael Mayer (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown) directed.

SpeakEasy's Triumph, directed by Richard Carey, stars Kerry Dowling-McInnes, Jamie Kirby, Deb Martin, A. John Porcaro, Sean Roper, Valerie Sullivan and J. T. Turner.
