Spelling Bee Tony Winner to Return to New York Boards in The Voyage of the Carcass

News   Spelling Bee Tony Winner to Return to New York Boards in The Voyage of the Carcass Tony Award winner Dan Fogler returns to the New York stage in the Off-Broadway production of Dan O'Brien's The Voyage of the Carcass.

Randy Baruch directs the work set to begin Oct. 4 at SoHo Playhouse and open Oct. 16 for a run through Nov. 12.

"When their Polar expedition goes awry, only three members of the doomed SS Carcass remain — Bane Barrington, a buffoonish explorer; ship’s Chaplain Kane, a rector in drag; and Israel, their mute (and Canadian) first mate," reads show materials. "After 7 years trapped in the ice, will they make it home alive?"

The work billed as an "arctic farce" weaves "Commedia Dell'arte with Theatre Verite" where the actors are playing actors who are playing the aforementioned characters. Carcass was previously seen at the HERE Arts Center in July 2002.

Fogler — who earned his Tony for his turn as the magic-footed and lugubrious, but loveable, William Barfeé in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee — appears in the ensemble cast which also features Noah Bean (Romance - Mark Taper Forum, Tis Pity She's A Whore - Williamstown Theater Festival) and Kelly Hutchinson (Major Barbara, Homebody/Kabul at NYTW, Romola & Nijinsky at Primary Stages).

Playwright O'Brien recently saw his The Dear Boy play as part of Second Stage Theater's Uptown series. Other works include Moving Pictures (Williamstown Theater Festival), Key West (Geva Theater Center) and Am Lit (Ensemble Studio Theater). The design team includes Wilson Chin (sets), Olga Ivanov (costumes), Grant W.S. Yeager (lights) and Drew Levy (sound). Jennifer Grutza is the production stage manager and Felix Ivanov is choreographer.

Tickets to The Voyage of the Carcass, at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street, (between Sixth and Varick) are available by calling (212) 691-1555 or online at www.sohoplayhouse.com.
