As previously reported, KC Rep artistic director Eric Rosen will stage Pippin, which opens the season Sept. 14-Oct. 7. The pop-rock musical has a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. KC Rep's production promises "new visual and musical twists to a musical theatre classic."
"Pippin is a show I've loved for a very long time and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to direct our new interpretation of this epic rock fable," Rosen said in a statement. "Our production will be a musically vigorous, genre-shifting explosion of high energy, tempered by a heartbreaking story about the search for meaning and significance in our lives."
In addition to his work on Spider-Man, Brock is the artistic director of the Brooklyn-based dance company, the Chase Brock Experience. He also choreographed the video game "Dance on Broadway" and the City Center Encores! production of Lost in the Stars.
The Pippin creative team will also include musical director Curtis Moore (Bridge Project's Richard III), Jack Magaw (scenic design), Alison Heryer (costume design), Jason Lyons (lighting design) and Zachary Williamson (sound design).
Casting will be announced at a later date. Two-time Tony Award nominee Diane Paulus (Hair, Porgy and Bess) is also at work on a new production of Pippin, which will premiere in late fall at the American Repertory Theater.
