The Spitfire Grill is what's cooking this summer at Florida Stage in Manalapan, FL, marking the Southern regional premiere of the new musical previously seen in New Jersey and Manhattan.

Bill Castellino directs the musical by James Valcq (book and music) and the late Fred Alley (book and lyrics), inspired by the film of the same name. Previews begin June 25 and opening is June 28, for a summer run through Sept. 1.

The folky musical is set in Gilead, WI, where a young woman with a painful past tries to fit in, and finds the rest of the town is as wounded as she is. When she finds work at the Sptifire Grill, Gilead grows richer. An Off-Broadway cast album was released earlier this year; Liz Callaway is heard on it.

The Florida Stage cast includes Heather Ayers, Kathryn Blake, Jim Gibbons, Lynn McNutt, Tally Sessions, Melinda Tanner, Barry Tarallo. Michael Anania created the turntable scenic design (he also designed the previous productions). Jim Fulton is the lighting designer. Suzette Pare designed costumes. Matt Kelly designed sound.

Christopher McGovern is musical director. Florida Stage is at Plaza del Mar, 262 South Ocean Boulevard, Manalapan. Tickets are $32-$36. For information, call (561) 585-3433 or (800) 514-3837 or visit floridastage.org.
