St. Louis Muny Hopes to Have Year-Round Presence | Playbill

News St. Louis Muny Hopes to Have Year-Round Presence St. Louis' The Muny, the country's largest outdoor theatre, which presents several musicals each summer from June through August, is aiming to become a year-round presence, according to stltoday.com.

As previously reported, the 97th summer season at the 11,000-seat theatre in Forest Park will feature My Fair Lady (June 15-21), Hairspray (June 23-30), Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn (July 6-12), Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story (July 13-19), Into The Woods (July 21-27), Disney’s Beauty and The Beast (July 29-Aug. 7) and Oklahoma! (Aug. 10-16.)

In addition to these musicals, the St. Louis venue will offer a cabaret evening at Sheldon Concert Hall, featuring one of the theatre's stars.

Some of the possibilities for the theatre's expansion, which is billed as a Second Century plan, include producing concert-style productions of musicals similar to the City Center Encores! series; workshopping and/or commissioning new musicals; broadcasting Muny productions via the Internet or at large stadium-like venues; and broadening its educational programs, among others.

"2015 will be another big, adventurous season," said Muny artistic director and executive producer Mike Isaacson in a previous statement. "During the past three seasons, we've expanded our creativity and energized our productions. The response from the Muny audience and the community has been nothing short of wonderful. This audience inspires us to keep on pushing ourselves and our vision, so now we're off to make more 'Muny magic' with these seven spectacular shows."
