The stage adaptation of The Sound and the Fury that made a return to Providence, Rhode Island's Perishable Theatre Jan. 11 is ending its scheduled run Jan. 28. Erik Ehn's reworking garnered rave reviews last season and played to sold- out crowds this run.
Based on the novel by William Faulkner, the adaptation stays true to the author's story. The six actors who portray over 30 different characters include original cast members Mark Peckham, James Barton, Mark Anthony Brown, Kate Lester, and Sylvia Ann Soares. Added to the cast is local performer Anthony Estrella.
Playwright Ehn was awarded a playwriting residency at the Perishable Theatre by the National Endowment for the Arts and Theatre Communication Group. Some of his other works include 'Maid, Erotic Curtsies, 10 Secret Characters and Little Rootie Tootie.
Peter Wallace (Suzan-Lori Parks' The America Play at the Arena Stage) directs the production for Perishable. The design team includes Jeremy Woodward with sets, Deb Sullivan with lights, Holly Laws with costumes and Peter Hurowitz on sound.
