What show recently impressed you?
I have two! I really loved Anything Goes because it reminded me of why I love musical theatre and what drew me to it in the first place. When the company burst into the big tap break, I actually got pretty emotional. The other is War Horse, which I loved for the inventiveness of the puppetry — I was truly swept away.

What production are you most excited to see?
I am most excited to see Evita. I played Eva at my husband Dan Cooney's theatre (The Encore Musical Theatre Company in Dexter, Michigan) opposite his Che...It was the inaugural production of the theatre three years ago.  We were literally building the theatre by day, rehearsing by night, and all the while planning our wedding...Oh, and I costumed the production!  It was truly a labor of love, and I think it will be very nostalgic to see the show on Broadway. I actually auditioned for role of the Mistress for this revival while I was nine months pregnant!  I think they missed the boat — how clever would it be to have the Mistress-with-child?!

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
I would love to see The Secret Garden revived.  I just loved it the first time around...I think I was nine years old when it opened, and it was my dream to play Mary. I guess I am just a little too old now, so I'd have to say I would want to play Martha or Lily. What a glorious score.

What are your current/upcoming projects?
I am currently playing "Mom" to our five-month-old son Gavin. I have to say, it is my favorite, most rewarding role thus far! I've stayed busy with readings, though, even doing one when Gavin was just five weeks old, and I continue to audition for jobs in town. I look forward to getting back into the swing of things and being on an eight-show schedule again soon. We have the perfect career for raising a child, other than the uncertainty of work of course, the schedule is pretty ideal.

*** Jessica Grové has been seen on Broadway in A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Les Miserables as well as in the national tours of The Boy Friend and Wizard of Oz. Her regional credits include She Loves Me, The Fantasticks, Titanic, Giant, Evita and Oklahoma!
