Here, via email, we hear from actress Allison Daugherty, who is currently starring in the world premiere of The Clearing, written by Jake Jeppson, at Theatre at St. Clement's.

What show recently impressed you?
I had a blast at A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder. It's such a giddy romp and though I knew better, Jefferson Mays pulled the wool over my eyes in his first two roles. I always hope as an actress to be a truthful chameleon, but Jefferson Mays is a master at this. His performance is delicious, charming and utterly unabashed. I also still find myself remembering Ethan Hawke's production of Ivanov as though it was a part of my life. Santo Loquasto's set was so inviting, and the acting was so intimate, awkward and heartbreaking. I recall it like a weekend away, spent with some heartbreaking family from another life.

What production are you most excited to see?
I'm looking forward to Hedwig And The Angry Inch. I missed the original production down in the Village in the nineties. Neil Patrick Harris is a googolplex threat: I suspect he'll knock it out of the park.

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
Oh gosh, it's a toss-up between Mother Courage (herself) and Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man. I can't wait to hit those life-strong broads. What fun. I'd also love to play Lyuba Ranevskaya in The Cherry Orchard in a Broadway theatre in which the audience is surrounded by branches and blossoms. Losing them would be heartbreaking.

What are your current/upcoming projects?
I [recently opened] in the world premiere of The Clearing at The Theatre at St. Clement’s. It's a beautiful and haunting new play written by an important new voice: Jake Jeppson. It's directed by Josh Hecht, who won a Drama Desk Award and has a beautiful eye. When I originated the role of "Ella" out of town, I was struck by how many women in the audience felt compelled to talk with me after the show about the character I play. Some actually whispered family secrets in my ear and confessed never-revealed feelings: oh God, she's just like my mother...that's how it feels, being the mother of adult children…I never told anyone this, but… It's a gift to play a beautifully written character you love and who people relate so personally to. The play somehow balances dark mystery with poetic hope. Don't miss it! It's a great cast featuring Gene Gallerano, Brian McManamon and Brian P. Murphy in a limited run.
