What show recently impressed you?
Just last week, my niece was in town, and she won the "lottery" to see The Book of Mormon. I went with her, and it totally blew me away! The cast was amazingly talented and honestly committed; the show was boldly daring, sneakily clever, gut-bustingly funny, toe-tappingly tuneful, and surprisingly heartwarming (and very worthy of as many adjectives that I could muster). Of course, I had heard great things about the show for some time, but it was nice to finally see it and make the discovery that it lives up to its hype!
What production are you most excited to see?
Well, now that I've checked The Book of Mormon off my list, I'd like to see Once, Other Desert Cities, Peter and the Starcatcher, Seminar, Sleep No More, and I really want to take my family to see The Gazillion Bubble Show! I have Tuesdays off, so I should be able to sneak them all into my schedule!
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
When I was in college, if I wasn't listening to a show by Sondheim, I was listening to any show by Maltby and Shire. Now, while I've had the honor and pleasure of being in several Sondheim shows (including my stint on Broadway as Hero in ...Forum), I still haven't done any Maltby and Shire! Though, I did get to work with Richard Maltby when he directed The Story of My Life on Broadway, but I never got to tell him how much I would love to be Nick in Baby, or either guy in Closer Than Ever or Starting Here, Starting Now. Other musicals: I would also like to play Paul in Carnival (I grew attached to the part after doing it at The Kennedy Center several years ago), Alfred/Sam in Romance/Romance, Charlie Brown in either show with Charlie Brown in it, and I would give (almost) anything for someone to take a chance on The Story of My Life again, so I could play Alvin Kelby. As far as plays...there are too many to list, but I'd like to revisit some Chekhov, play Iago, and do any of the roles in the plays that inspired me when I was younger...now that I'm old enough to play them!
What are your current/upcoming projects?
I am in Freud's Last Session, at New World Stages, until April 29. (At the moment) I don't have any other shows lined up. But, as a husband, and father of three boys...I'm going to have to remedy that...and soon! However, I do have a recurring job as the online tutorial host for Optimum Online, and that will hopefully keep me somewhat busy until the next show comes. Fingers crossed!
