Here, via email, we hear from singing actor David Josefsberg, who plays Buddy Rocky and Roy Bacon in the new musical Honeymoon in Vegas at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre.
What show recently impressed you?
I went to go see Found at the Atlantic Theater Company because I had a close friend in it (Sandy Rustin Fleischer). What I "found" there was a fantastic, refreshing new musical filled with some amazing performances! I even had to see it twice. Can't wait to see it on Broadway!
What production are you most excited to see?
Well, I guess it would have to be It Shoulda Been You. I was a part of the show at the George Street Playhouse, and I really enjoyed working on it. From the performances of Tyne Daly (she taught me so much), Harriet Harris, Richard Kline, Lisa Howard (she kills it!) and all the rest. It is really just a wonderful show. And then to have the nicest man in show business, David Hyde Pierce, at the helm....sounds good to me
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
Skimbleshanks!!!! No, um, well I guess I'll say... Can I say a couple? I'll say a couple. Sweeney Todd (Pirelli), Forum (Pseudolus), Lend Me A Tenor (Max) and something in Fiddler one day. I have never done anything in Fiddler, not even in high school! I mean, it's time! Look at me! My brother, who is in PR, even played Tevye in school!
What are your current/upcoming projects?
Currently, I am in my dream role of Buddy Rocky/Roy Bacon in the new musical Honeymoon in Vegas! It is a brand-new musical that I have been involved with for nine years! I have three amazing numbers that I get to wail in and be funny! Andrew Bergman has written a terrific script (he wrote the movie, and like 15 other movies that have had a huge impact on my comedy life. Just look em up... "Blazing Saddles," "The Freshman"... a lot I tell ya) and Jason Robert Brown has written a glorious score! I have also just wrapped filming on the short film "9 minutes" written by Adam Dannheiser (Rock of Ages)! My favorite project is making lunches for my boys, Cooper and Benji, walking my dog Angus after the show, and being husband to my wife Lizzie!
