Here, via email, we hear from singing actress Erin Maguire, who currently stars in Til Divorce Do Us Part: The Musical, an original musical comedy revue based on the real-life story of Ruthe Ponturo, who wrote the piece while going through her divorce from a Broadway producer; the production plays the DR2 Theatre.

What show recently impressed you?
I have to say it’s a great season for Broadway, and I’ve been seeing a lot of truly phenomenal work, but I was so impressed by Twelfth Night with Mark Rylance. From the second you step into the theatre, you’re transported back in time. If you get there at half hour, you watch the actors getting into costume and makeup on the stage. And they’re keeping everything true to form, as it would’ve been in Elizabethan time. The actors are straight pinned into costume, the makeup is created from scratch using ingredients found at that time, and the wigs are thread or horsehair. The performances are stunning. Mark Rylance is giving a master class. There are so many standout performances, like Samuel Barnett and Angus Wright that are so phenomenal. And it’s wild that they switch gears and perform Richard III two hours later. I’ll never complain about a two-show day again.

What production are you most excited to see?
I’ve been dying to see Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. It looks so dang funny and left of center. I’ve only heard fabulous things about it, and particularly about Jefferson Mays. It also doesn’t hurt that I have a boatload of pals in that show, some making their Broadway debuts. I’m also super crazy excited about Hedwig coming to Broadway. It’s one of my absolute favorite shows, and I saw it years ago at the Jane Street Theatre. I’m excited that it’s finally arriving on the uptown scene. I have my foam wig head ready to go!

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
Ironically, Hedwig would be a dream role of mine, but since that Neil Patrick Harris guy already signed his contract, I guess that’s out. That being said, I would love to see The Who’s Tommy come back. Mrs. Walker has always been on my bucket list. I was obsessed with that show when it first came out. I was a sassy (read: awkward) ginger teen living in Boston when the first national tour came through the Colonial Theatre. My parents took me to see it, and I was instantly in love. I went back to see it two more times and paid for it myself… in all loose change! Kid you not, I went to the box office, bought a ticket, and poured out a jar of pennies, dimes and, the occasional jackpot, quarters. They hated me. I didn’t care – that deaf, dumb and blind kid sure played a mean pinball.

What are your current/upcoming projects?
At the moment, I am playing the role of Kate in Til Divorce Do Us Part: The Musical at the DR2 Theatre in Union Square. It’s a funny, fast-paced show that turns divorce on its side and takes a humorous and heartwarming look at relationships. It started at the Triad originally and is based on the true story of Ruth Ponturo’s divorce and her experiences. It’s really developed into the universal story of every person’s experiences when dealing with heartbreak and healing. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments and some genuinely heartwarming songs to which all of us can relate. It’s really for anyone that has been dumped — you don’t have to be divorced.
