News Staged Reading of Goodtime Charley, With Charlie Duncan, Will Benefit Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective will present a one-night-only staged reading of Larry Grossman's 1975 musical Goodtime Charley March 25 at the Joria Productions Theatre.

The 7 PM performance will benefit the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative.

The cast will feature Charlie Duncan in the title role, Emily Floyd as Joan of Arc, Mallory Berlin, Mario Castro, Dom Crincoli, Joseph da Fonseca, Margaret Dietrich, Anna Kirkland, Alex Pagels, Cara Picone and Anne Richmond.

Steven Carl McCasland directs with musical direction by Aimee Radics and narration by Orlando Iriarte.

With a score by Larry Grossman, lyrics by Hal Hackady and a book by Sidney Michaels, the musical, according to press notes, "chronicles Charles VII's journey to the throne. A little lost, a little hedonistic, Charley encounters Joan of Arc and she helps to make the boy a man."

Goodtime Charley opened on Broadway on March 3, 1975, at the Palace Theatre. It closed after 104 performances. The original production was directed by Peter H. Hunt and starred Tony and Academy Award winner Joel Grey as King Charles VII and Tony Award winner Ann Reinking.
