Stanley Simmonds, a vaudevillian and character actor who appeared in Broadway's Li'l Abner, Mack and Mabel, Call Me Madam and Fiorello!, died of natural causes Dec. 19 in New York, Variety reported. He was 92. Mr. Simmonds was a colleague of Milton Berle in the days of burlesque and later appeared on TV's "The Phil Silvers Show," and in the films "Li'l Abner," Woody Allen's "Zelig" and "Off Beat."
He is not to be confused with the theatre and ballet costume designer Stanley Simmons (Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, City Center's The King and I), who died earlier in 1999 at age 71.
