During a year that included 44 Broadway openings and almost as many awards shows, benefits, galas and receptions, theatre stars turned out as many red-carpet looks as the Duchess of Cambridge on a royal tour. As we approach the 68th Annual Tony Awards, we take a look back at the season's most memorable moments in style—including plunging necklines, high slits, brights colors, crop tops, two-toned tuxes and man makeup—as seen on Broadway's leading men and women, ingénues, veterans, newcomers, ensembles, couples and kids.

Tune in to CBS on June 8 to see what the nominees and stars like Neil Patrick Harris, Sutton Foster, Judith Light, Anika Noni Rose, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Kelli O'Hara, Bryan Cranston, Jessie Mueller and Chris O'Dowd wear to celebrate Broadway's biggest night.

Couples

Andy Mientus, currently starring as Marius in the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Les Misérables, and his boyfriend Michael Arden, who plays Patrick in Charlie Sheen's FX show "Anger Management," look their best when they're together on the same coast. Mientus is known for his splashy style, which Arden often balances with a more basic look.

"Smash" co-stars turned couple Will Chase and Debra Messing—who made her Broadway debut this season in John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullinger—were all over the Broadway red carpet this season. They looked especially stunning at the MTC gala when Chase, in an elegant black suit, let Messing’s full-length bright orange gown take center stage.

On stage Jarrod Spector plays one-half of the successful songwriting couple, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil (played by Anika Larsen), in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and offstage he's one half of a successful Broadway couple. The Tony Award nominee's date to the opening of Beautiful was his fiancé, the impeccably dressed Kelli Barrett, who is currently starring as Nessarose in Wicked.

TV stars and real-life husband and wife Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman had the New York look down—magenta hair and cat-eye glasses for Mullally and a scruffy, salt-and-pepper beard for Offerman—at the Lucille Lortel Awards. And it's a good thing since the L.A.-based couple will be back this fall when Mullally stars in Terrence McNally's It's Only a Play on Broadway.

As the star of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka were one of the most exciting couples on the red carpet this year. While they look great in bolder looks like the pink, white and black color scheme (with some eye makeup on NPH) the couple coordinated for Hedwig’s opening night, they look especially handsome in the classic blues and greys they slipped on for the New Dramatists Spring luncheon.

Veterans

Some actresses find a look or style that works, and they stick with it. Judith Light is not one of those actresses. Her style is all over the map, but whether it's a lace black cocktail dress like the one she wore to the MTC gala or the coat-as-dress trend she sported at the Drama League Awards, the two-time Tony winner always looks flawless.

Although Patrick Page wears a dress for much of his time on stage in Harvey Fierstein's new Tony-nominated play Casa Valentina, the actor owns some of the best suit-and-tie combos in the business. He wore two of his best ensembles to the opening of the Velocity of Autumn and the opening of Aladdin.

Sir Ian Mckellen and his BFF Patrick Stewart may be performers of equal talent onstage and on screen, but on the red carpet it's McKellen who has the superior style. At the opening night of this season's revivals of Waiting for Godot and No Man's Land that he and Stewart performed in rep, McKellen gave a cheeky nod to Godot's vaudeville spirit with a velvet jacket, flowered tie and polka-dotted pocket square.

If there were a Goddess of Tap Dance, After Midnight's Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards would be it. She certainly looked ethereal in a Greek-style gown and oversized earrings at the Tony-nominated musical's opening night.

The 86-year-old Estelle Parsons looked youthful and fresh in a full-length bohemian-style velvet dress at the opening of her short-lived play about the struggles of getting older, The Velocity of Autumn.

Ingenues

Samantha Hill, currently playing Cosette in the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Les Miz, looked fun and flirty at her first official Broadway opening night wearing a short navy blue and nude lace number with her long hair swept to the side—a popular hairstyle on Hollywood red carpets.

It's been a big year for actress Helene Yorke; she's had a starring role in Showtime's new hit "Masters of Sex" and was cast as the bawdy Olive Neal in Woody Allen's musical adaptation of Bullets Over Broadway. Her BOB opening-night dress is a wink at the Roaring '20s when the backstage comedy takes place, but she keeps it modern with a "piece-y" voluminous up do. This look says, "I have arrived!"

"The Last Exorcism" actress Ashley Bell’s Broadway debut was a supporting role in Machinal, but based on this look—which is the perfect balance between glamour and class—she's ready to land a leading one.

Child stars

Colin Critchley, the ten-year-old star of Waiting for Godot, took a page from his co-star Ian Mckellen's sartorial handbook, wearing what looks like a mini version of McKellen's velvet jacket at Godot's opening night. Pairing his suit with a gingham button down and bow tie, Critchley's a dandy-in-training.

As the Duke of York in Richard III, Hayden Signoretti supports his Tony-nominated co-stars on stage, but overthrows them on the red carpet with the winning combination of a three-piece suit and woven tie.

No tie, no problem! At the opening of Big Fish last fall, Zachary Unger brought back the rock 'n' roll style of the '50s with an oversized open collar under his suit. Now all he needs is a pair of blue suede shoes.

Ten-year-old Fun Home star Sydney Lucas has brightened up the red carpet this season with her bright A-line dresses, like the hot pink frock she wore when she became the youngest person to win an Obie Award.

Sporting a three-piece pinstripe suit with a matching tie and pocket square, Darius Kaleb—the understudy for Travis Younger in the Tony-nominated revival of A Raisin in the Sun—looks like a star in the making.

Leading Ladies

First Date star Krysta Rodriguez can always be counted on to spice up Broadway events with her contemporary fashion choices. With looks like a lime green gown paired with an oversized jeweled choker that she wore to the MTC gala, Rodriguez is sure to make Best-Dressed lists for years to come.

Tony-nominated Raisin in the Sun star Anika Noni Rose never disappoints on the red carpet with looks that that range from va va voom, like the silver sparkler she wore to Raisin in the Sun's opening night, to the carefree chic of this high-waisted bell skirt paired with a blousy top that she wore to the New Dramatists luncheon.

Everything about Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Jessie Mueller's look on the opening night of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical was well, beautiful. From the flashy sequined dress to her feminine side chignon, there’s no doubting that Mueller is now a bonafied Broadway star.

She may have won a Drama Desk Award and scored a Tony nom for her role as Laura in the Tony-nominated revival of The Glass Menagerie, but Celia Keenan-Bolger should also get an award for her sophisticated-yet-chic style. Others tried it, but Keenan-Bolger nailed this season's crop top trend when she paired a short black tank with a voluminous white midi skirt at the Drama League Awards, and she managed to find the perfect pantsuit to wear to the Drama Desk Awards nominees reception. Keenan-Bolger took her style a step further at the Drama Desk Awards, where she wore a sheer skirt over hot pants and her hair in a slicked back style. The only star she'll have to top at this year's Tony Awards is herself.

It's hard to believe that Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara had her second baby less than a year ago—especially when she steps out in a look like the mod bright orange a-line and towering nude heels she wore to the Drama Desk Awards nominees reception. And her blonde hair has never looked better. No wonder she had two of Broadway's most handsome leading men fighting for her attention eight times a week in The Bridges of Madison County.

To play her Tony-nominated role as the physically scarred Violet in Jeanine Tesori's new musical of the same name, Sutton Foster wears ill-fitting dresses and no makeup, which might explain why her offstage hair, makeup and style have been really on point this season. She showed off her dancer's figure in a form-fitting bright orange dress at the Drama Desk nominee reception and stunned in a long, slinky black number to the Drama Desk Awards.

Leading Men

It's never a dull moment when the Tony-nominated Jefferson Mays takes the stage in Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder or hits the red carpet. He mixes an array of hats, jackets, vests, shoes and ties to create looks like this barbershop quartet-style ensemble he wore to MTC's Spring gala.

Mirroring their characters in Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Jefferson Mays' co-star Bryce Pinkham is the more polished and dapper yin to Mays' eccentric yang when it comes to their style at Broadway events. Pinkham's polished two-toned tux he wore for GGLM's opening night party is perfect for the man who woos two women each night as the ambitious royal wannabe Monty Navarro.

Daniel Radcliffe put a contemporary twist on the traditional black-suit-and-button-down ensemble for the opening night of the Tony-nominated revival of The Cripple of Inishmaan—in which he stars—with very handsome results.

What man can make a blue suit, purple tie and black-and-white polka dotted pocket square look good together? Hunter Foster, that's who. Too bad his knack for combining patterns and colors couldn't save The Bridges of Madison County from an all-too-brief Broadway run.

West-End actor Ramin Karimloo has been a welcome addition to Broadway red carpet this year. The Les Miz actor really knows how to jazz up a traditional suit with accessories like the pocket watch he wore when the Tony nominees met the press.

Newcomers

The Cripple of Inishmaan's Tony-nominated actress Sarah Greene has kept it pretty casual and covered up for her New York appearances—until the Theater World Awards, where she was honored for Outstanding Broadway Debut. The Irish beauty looked absolutely radiant in this long black dress with a plunging neckline. Hopefully this is the direction Greene will go for her Tony Awards gown.

Bryan Cranston may be new to Broadway, but the Tony-nominated All The Way actor is no stranger to a red carpet moment, which is obvious from his collection of luxurious mottled wool suits. The brown two-piece Cranston wore to the Drama League Awards nominee reception is the winner, with the blue one he sported to meet the press coming in a close second. LBJ would be proud.

The Tony-nominated Raisin in the Sun actress Sophie Okonedo wore some of the most high-fashion looks of the season. With examples like the velvet suit and bolero tie that she wore to the Drama League Awards and the leopard-print midi with pink pumps (and matching lipstick) at the Drama Desk Awards nominees reception, her Tony Awards dress (or pants suit!) is bound to be CFDA-approved.

Black and blue is a tricky combination, but by mixing satin and velvet the British heart-throb Joseph Timms, who made his Broadway debut in Richard III and Twelfth Night, makes the color combination look positively royal.

The Glass Menagerie actor Zachary Quinto makes a solid argument for all-over plaid with this perfectly tailored tartan ensemble he wore to the revival's opening-night party. And to avoid being too "matchy matchy" he stuck a different colored plaid square in his pocket.

As it turns out, Michelle Williams is not the only fashion-forward woman in the cast of Cabaret. Gayle Rankin looked like she came straight off the runway instead of the stage at the revival's opening night in an ultra modern ivory mini with oversized armholes. And a bold red lip saved the fair-skinned blonde from looking too washed out.

Of Mice and Men's Tony-nominated cast member Chris O'Dowd knows how to put together a truly stylish ensemble mixing patterned shirts, cardigans, jackets and bright-colored pants.

This natty three-piece suit that Zachary Levi wore to the Drama League Awards is a great example of why the TV actor made a lasting impression in his Broadway debut, First Date.

Ensembles

At the opening night of Bullets Over Broadway, "chorines" were dripping in glamour both on and off the stage.
