News Stars Queue For Wyndhams' The Play What I Wrote

There's feverish press speculation as to the names of guest celebrities in The Play What I Wrote.

With names like Victoria Beckham and Kylie Minogue being bandied about by elements of Fleet Street who aren't normally noted for their fascination with the theatre, it looks as though David Pugh's touch for creating publicity is as sure as ever.

While Art has been given a regular fillip by cast changes every three months, The Play What I Wrote is taking the public's appetite for celebrities one stage further - with nightly guest appearances by surprise celebrities as part of the play-within-a-play at Wyndham's Theatre.

Appearing on the real-life Morecambe and Wise show—the comedy team on which the play is based—was always popular among leading theatre, film and television personalities during the 1960s and 1970s.

The real genius of this as a marketing ploy, however, seems to be that by definition the producers cannot confirm or deny rumors as the whole point of the celebrity appearances is that they are surprises.
