The salute takes place at the Waldorf Astoria. According to sources, Lee Roy Reams will be singing "Hello, Bobby" to the tune of "Hello, Dolly." Composer Jerry Herman has approved the lyric change.

A benefit for Citizens for NYC, the evening will honor Short and Alexandra and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. Short will receive the Lena Horne Legend Award, while the Schlesingers will receive the Marietta Tree Award for Public Service. The benefit dinner, which begins with cocktails at 6:30 PM, will also boast a one-hour musical tribute to Short.

Among those scheduled to take part in the Short tribute are Tony Award winners Chita Rivera, Elaine Stritch, Karen Ziemba and Christine Ebersole as well as Rent's Daphne Rubin-Vega, jazz pianist Barbara Carroll, cabaret singer Mary Cleere Haran and veteran performer Kitty Carlisle Hart. Gossip columnist Liz Smith will be Master of Ceremonies.
