Daniel McDonald, co-star of the musical Steel Pier, has been sidelined from the show since Wednesday, May 7. McDonald, who portrays daredevil pilot Bill Kelly in the new Kander and Ebb musical, injured his leg during the Wednesday matinee and has so far missed the Wednesday and Thursday evening performances.

In the meantime, standby Brian Sutherland is filling in for the injured actor.

No press representative was available to comment on McDonald's current condition or when he will return to the show. The injury comes at an unfortuitous time for the actor, who days earlier garnered a Tony nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

A check at the Richard Rodgers theatre box office indicated that most Tony voters chose to reschedule their visit to the show until after McDonald returns.

The vicinity of 46th St. and Broadway proved an unlucky one for theatregoers the evening of May 7 - right around the corner from Steel Pier, disappointed patrons were informed that Julie Andrews would be out of Victor/Victoria due to illness.
