The evening will honor award-winning actors Whoopi Goldberg and Elaine Stritch as well as Suzanne Shank and Debra Wasser. The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is currently celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding. In a statement Tom Oppenheim, the studio's acting artistic director, said, "For the past 60 years, The Stella Adler Studio of Acting has contributed to American culture by providing generations of actors with world-class training. In the next 60 years and beyond, the Studio will maintain those very same programs with a focus on public access."
An Academy Award-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg has appeared on Broadway in Xanadu, Whoopi, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (which she co-produced). In addition to earning a Grammy and Golden Globe Award, Goldberg is a Tony-winning producer of 2002's Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Elaine Stritch received Tony and Emmy Awards for Elaine Stritch at Liberty, which traces a stellar career that boasts roles in Company, The Little Foxes, Bus Stop, A Delicate Balance, Sail Away and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
