Prior to curtain, Daldry addressed the audience, explaining that the musical was celebrating its third anniversary on Broadway. The director commented about the more than 60 boys who have played the title role around the world as well as the four young actors who are currently starring on Broadway. The evening's performance featured Tade Biesenger in the title role.

Following the performance, all four Billys (including Biesenger, Julian Elia, Joseph Harrington and Peter Mazurowski) were joined by the musical's original stars, David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish and Trent Kowalik, who all won Tonys for their performances and appear to have each grown a foot or more since their Broadway debuts. The four current Billys and then the three original Billys performed brief dances that were greeted by cheers from the audience.

The musical features music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry.
