New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Tony Award nominee Alec Baldwin will present the honors during a Nov. 1 gala at Alice Tully Hall.

Sondheim (Follies, Sunday in the Park With George, Sweeney Todd) has been named the NYC Handel Medallion recipient. It is the highest cultural honor presented by the City of New York, recognizing individuals who have enriched the cultural life of the city.

Previous recipients have included Richard Rodgers, George Abbott, Lena Horne, Jerome Robbins and Kitty Carlisle Hart.

Also honored with 2011 Mayor’s Award for Arts and Culture is the non-profit performing arts organization TDF, as well as acclaimed actor-dancer Baryshnikov, arts advocate Alice Diamond, musician Jimmy Heath, artist Maya Lin and PS MO94 principal Ronnie Schuster.

Guest artists for the Nov. 1 gala will be announced shortly.
